But most people are living in stress chronically,, they are producing these chemicals every single day without relief. Not because they\u2019re being chased by a predator but because they\u2019re thinking about their problems and in that state your body breaks down. Your immune system becomes suppressed and your digestive system shuts down; the body\u2019s energy goes toward the perceived threat. There is no energy left for creating, healing and thriving. <\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000;\"><span style=\"font-family: Helvetica Neue, serif;\"><span style=\"font-size: small;\"><span style=\"font-size: medium;\"><span lang=\"en-US\">But when you sit down and do this 20 minute ritual, when you get present and open your heart, you generate emotions like gratitude and joy. Your body shifts from a state of stress to a state of coherence; your stress hormones drop, your healing hormones increase. You start producing oxytocin, dopamine, serotonin and endorphins-all chemicals associated with well-being, with health, with vitality \u2014and in that state, your body can heal. It can regenerate, it can create because now your energy isn\u2019t going toward surviving, it\u2019s going toward thriving. You\u2019ve literally changed your internal chemistry through your thoughts and emotions. This is the science that tells us we are not victims of our genes.
